Continuing Covenant Communications's tradition of fiction based on the Book of Mormon, Paget tells this romance about the daughters of Ishmael and their trials and adventures as they are betrothed to the sons of Lehi. Each of the girls is assigned to marry one of the sons of Lehi, but none of them are happy with their assignment. They are even more unhappy when they learn that Lehi's entire family has disappeared.
This is not advanced literature or even a romping adventure, but as a romance directed at early adolescent girls, Paget hits right on the mark. The story moves well, the plot is interesting without being too predictable (a danger when using such a well-known story), and the characters are believable -- especially if you picture them all as giggling teens.
There's not much more to praise or criticize. I preferred listening to the audio cassettes over reading. The narrator skillfully incorporates many of the narrative instructions. When the text says, "She giggles," the narrator giggles quite believably.
Again there's nothing outstanding about this story, but there were no glaring flaws either. A simple story that is well constructed and has appeal to a less demanding audience.
