Hoff sets you up. He builds up the expectation that he will show you how to change for the better, a change from the pessimistic Eeyore and Tigger (Western) tendencies against nature to the Piglet (Eastern) tendency to be meek, mild, working with nature, and rising to the occasion with greatness.
Instead, you get a political tract on how man has abused nature and the earth is about to strike back. There will be a cleansing of the earth -- the repercussion of the many years of abuse by mankind. All those left after the cleansing will be those who were in tune with the earth and were able (through their in-tuneness with nature) to be out of harm's way. Blech! I was hoping for some advice on how to personally be a better person and to tame the masculine tendencies with the feminine. I was even ready to hear how Tai Chi was the answer to gaining a balanced life. Instead I was inundated with undocumented facts about the abuses of mankind against himself and nature.
I'll have to read The Tao of Pooh, because its use of the Pooh characters to explain Taoism seems to be worthwhile, but the use of A. A. Milne's endearing characters to promote a political agenda degrades both the characters and the agenda.
