Shasta learns that the old fisherman he calls "Father" found Shasta as a baby. Bree, a talking horse, convinces Shasta to flee the land of Calormen for Narnia, the land of peace and talking animals. To get to Narnia, they must pass through Tashbaan, Calormen's capital. There, Shasta encounters the High King Peter of Narnia and his traveling companions learn of a plot to invade Archenland and eventually Narnia. Shasta and his companions rush north to warn the Archenlanders.
The Horse and His Boy tells the only story in The Chronicles of Narnia where the main characters do not come from Earth -- with small cameo roles from Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy. I liked the story, but Lewis solves most of the character's problems through coincidence and luck, not through bravery and heroism.
