The Encyclopedia of Knots and Fancy Rope Work sets itself apart by providing a photograph of every knot discussed. The authors devote almost half of the Encyclopedia to black-and-white photographs demonstrating the various knots and their variations. Unfortunately, the authors believe that the illustrations obviate the need to provide complete tying instructions. Take for example the instructions for knot number 276:
FIG 276: The Interlocked Lark's Heads has twin Lark's Heads interlocked together in the manner shown.
Although the photograph does clearly show the knot, you would have to make several trial-and-error attempts to reproduce the knot.
I think you could use the Encyclopedia as an idea resource for creating fancy knot board and especially sennits. Beginning knot tiers would probably not find enough instruction in the text for tying the knots, and advanced knot tiers would want the more complete Ashley Book of Knots.
